Gautam Barua

Aclaria Partners founder Gautam Barua has distinctive expertise in originating and profitably investing in ESG opportunities, with a consistently successful and pioneering career in climate and sustainability spanning more than two decades

He has led $80M of profitable clean water and energy deals, founded a market-leading clean energy firm, and advised major corporations on sustainability. Gautam first engaged on ESG in the 1990s, contributing to Nobel Prize-winning work on climate change and carbon sequestration while also working for Yale’s Investments Office. He has served in advisory, new business, and M&A roles at McKinsey and Morgan Stanley; held an appointment as California Deputy State Controller, helping spark creation of a $1.5B cleantech investment program at CalPERS, the largest pension fund in the United States; served on boards of sustainability and conservation NGOs; and been a Silicon Valley exec.

In addition to a BA cum laude in Economics and Mathematics from Yale, Gautam earned an MBA with Distinction from Harvard, where he also completed Executive Education in Entrepreneurship.

Andrew Green

Andrew brings extensive experience in working with executive teams to drive tangible growth in revenues and profitability. As Founding Partner of Broad Reach Growth, he works with middle market and post-Series A and B companies to create value-building growth strategies and actionable implementation plans.

Prior to Broad Reach Growth, Andrew was a Senior Partner at the management consulting firm Kearney, leading their North American Strategy & Organization practice and serving on the firm’s North American Management Committee. Andrew remains a Kearney Partner Emeritus.

Andrew was also a Partner at the Jackson Hole Group, helping with strategy, strategy implementation, and effective governance. He currently serves on the Board of Strategen, Inc. and is a Senior Advisor to the Chasm Institute (Crossing the Chasm); DeepLook, Inc.; and Lifeboat Ventures.

Andrew earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Brown University.

Jeff Smith

Jeff has extensive experience and leadership in product design and development. He co-founded and led the world-renowned firm LUNAR Design, serving as CEO for 30 years until its acquisition by McKinsey & Company in 2015.

LUNAR helped design and develop leading products with applications in multiple sectors, such as Apple’s PowerBook 100 laptop, named the greatest gadget of all time by Mobile PC; revolutionary ultrasound machines placed in Smithsonian’s innovation collections; the dominant pioneering robotic surgery DaVinci system; and Illumina’s industry-leading DNA sequencing and analysis machines.

He was featured on the cover of Inc. magazine for his pioneering leadership in the field of venture design. As a creator of this discipline, he co-led initiatives for companies selling a diversity of products, such as a line of kick scooters named by Bloomberg BusinessWeek as among the 50 coolest products of the 21st Century; beautiful and superior performing kitchen tools; laser medical devices; and even laser-integrated pet toys.

Under Jeff’s leadership, LUNAR was consistently counted among the world’s most highly regarded and awarded design firms, winning Smithsonian’s Cooper Hewitt’s National Design Award in 2014. In 2017 the Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania named Jeff the first design fellow in its Entrepreneurship & Innovation program.

Mark Battey

Mark brings deep knowledge and leadership experience in business, government, and nonprofit organizations to Aclaria Partners. As Managing Director of Miramar Farms, Inc., Mark helps leaders thrive through coaching, team facilitation, and organizational consulting.

With over 30 years of leadership experience, Mark previously served as an appointee of then-Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to the board of CalSTRS, the second-largest pension fund in the United States. Prior to that, he was Chief Deputy Controller for California, managing a $11 billion Revenue Anticipation Warrant bond sale and serving on a variety of state finance boards, including CalPERS and CalSTRS.

Mark earned an MBA from Stanford, an MSc from London School of Economics, a BA from Harvard University, and, most recently, a Masters in International Business from the International School of Management in Paris, New York, Shanghai, and New Delhi.

Marya Stark

Marya is an organizational expert who has built platforms that have changed the face of leadership in American business and politics.

Marya co-founded Emerge America, the premier political leadership training organization for women in the US, over 5,000 alumnae. Over 1,000 Emerge alumnae currently serve in public office, including US Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, Congresswoman Lucy McBath, and the mayors of San Francisco, Oakland, and Boston. As Founding President and then Board Chair, Marya led Emerge for its first eight years.

More recently having founded Trajectory Women, Marya has brought her vision, passion, and intentionality to changing the face of leadership in business. Trajectory programs pair peer groups with outstanding executive coaches who cultivate the insight, reflection, and accountability that characterize effective business leaders.

Marya has contributed to the Financial Times, Slate, Quartz, Yahoo News, the Women’s Media Center, and the Huffington Post. She started her career in investment banking in New York, where she was inspired to support the emergence and development of great leaders.

She received her undergraduate degree in Business Administration from UC Berkeley and a Masters in Applied Statistics from Georgetown University.
